Charles E. Shea High School

The Charles E. Shea High School, built in 1938, is a four-story Art Deco structure originally designed by Providence architect John F. O’Malley. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. BTGA, in collaboration with SLAM, has led the charge to transform this aging high school into a twenty-first-century learning hub. The project includes a complete renovation of the existing E-shaped structure and addition to accommodate new accessible entryways, student common spaces, and new academic pathways. Interior renovations include updated classrooms, team collaboration spaces, and project-based learning spaces.

BTGA is leading the restoration of the historic exterior, the auditorium, and the main entry lobby. All three spaces will be carefully renovated to preserve their historic detailing in coordination with the State’s Historic Preservation and Heritage Commission. Our work will bring this space back to its former glory. The historic auditorium will be modernized with new technology, but it will retain its historic beauty.
