Community College of Rhode Island
Nursing Simulation Laboratory

CCRI’s School of Nursing was utilizing a standard classroom space to teach medical techniques and hands-on skills. As technologies and teaching styles have moved toward interactive and skill-based learning, BTGA turned their classroom into a functioning hospital suite. The design includes fully equipped patient rooms and medical supply rooms electronically overseen by professors in a control room. Conference rooms connected to the same technologies allow students to oversee peers working within the patient rooms and gives the professors the opportunity to review techniques. It was important the space was set up to allow multiple teaching groups to utilize the space. Oversized internal corridors and thoughtful placement of each room allows groups to move through the space sequentially and independently. Special attention to soundproofing gives classrooms the privacy they need when working closely in occupied spaces.
