Mary Dorsey Brewster, AIA, is the founder of the firm. Her experience in quality design offices such William Kite Architects and the Office of Michael Rosenfeld, along with a professional architectural degree from the Rhode Island School of Design, has resulted in high quality projects throughout Rhode Island and neighboring Massachusetts.
She has won citations from the Providence Preservation Society and from the RI Chapter of the American Institute of Architects. Included among these was her transformation of an empty derelict carriage barn into a high-end custom residence for a Providence couple. Another of her award-winning designs was a new Craftsman-style residence along Narragansett Bay that won the 2002 Grand Award from Builder Magazine for the best new custom residence under 3,500 sq. ft. in the United States.

Project Highlights:
Porcaro Residence – New house on limited lot in Jamestown with an Italian inspired stone ground floor, with two floors above of finished space. Garage with lift; stone tile floors; curved staircase; radiant heat; curved infinity edge pool; grotto for hot tub with glass ceiling pavers; custom metal railing, and other details. Site detailing included extensive dewatering.
Chace Residence – New residence on Great Island (Cape Cod) with guest house over garage, twin tapered towers, open floor plan, staircase to beach, master and children’s realms, and custom kitchen. Close architectural review was conducted by the island’s review board.
Bornstein Residence – New limestone, granite, and slate clad residence in Providence with a classically inspired design highlighted by the use of the elliptical shape in plan and elevation. Radiant stone slab floors, extensive cabinetry, borrowed light details, stone slab bathrooms, and custom mahogany windows and doors; custom cast hardware.
Nelson Residence – Complete overhaul of an existing house on Jamestown’s east coast. Garage/Guest House, was connected to the main house, all finishes completely redone under tarps and scaffolding during the course of 9 months in 2004-2005. Construction site was visible from space. Paneling, cabinets, partition relocation, and new chimneys were constructed. New swimming pool and stone facings, and terraces were added under cover. Construction teams were coordinated by site. Much of the correspondence with the Owners was done while they were away.
Elliott Residence - Teardown and rebuild of a house in the velocity zone at the end of a peninsula in Barrington. House has a 12” steel tube moment frame in the foundation, garage on grade, stone fireplace, and other custom details. Adhered to FEMA as well as CRMC regulations.
Sherer Residence – New residence built by the Owner (was General Contractor) in Jamestown, RI. Shingle style residence which was part of a nine house traditionally inspired custom development designed entirely by BTGA.
